In Noel Clarke’s follow-up to the brutally realistic, depressingly relevant Kidulthood – think of it as a Brit-grit La Haine, or Boyz N the Hoodie – is surer, sharper and harder-hitting than its predecessor. Writer/director actor Clarke (Doctor Who’s Mickey) returns as Sam, newly released from jail and back on the mean streets of West London, spending his first 24 hours of freedom trying to avoid stabbings, shootings, and the lure of thug life. A sad and sorry vision of today’s urban youth? For real, blood. But it crackles with youthful energy, pumps a killer soundtrack, and packs a hell of a punch. Bring on ParenTHOOD.
