The Omega Man Blu-ray Review

OmegaManSquareA mere seven years after Vincent Price played The Last Man on Earth in the first adaptation of Richard Matheson’s novella I Am Legend, Charlton Heston took on the role of mankind’s sole survivor in this agreeably funky refit, which is part post-apocalyptic thriller, part requiem for the ‘60s. Boris Sagal’s direction betrays his TV roots despite the widescreen format, and the sound (Dolby 1.0) is patchy in places, but the HD transfer is flawless – a little too sharp, perhaps: you can see the cars on the highway in the distance of this supposedly deserted world.

EXTRAS: Interviews with co-writer Joyce H Corrington and two of the co-stars are wasted in a too-brief featurette (Matheson is, after all, still alive), and the original 1971 ‘making of’ is of curiosity value only.
