Seven Days In May (Empire On-Demand Review)

SevenDaysSquareSeven Days in May (1964), VOD

Between his twin masterpieces of paranoia, The Manchurian Candidate (1962) and Seconds (1966), John Frankenheimer made this cracking Cold War thriller, currently unavailable on DVD or Blu. Burt Lancaster is on thunderous form as the US army General plotting a coup against his own government, fearful that a pacifist president is soft on the Soviets, while a moderate Colonel (Kirk Douglas) struggles to alert the powers that be.

Empire rating: ★★★★
